Schoolcraft, Henry Rowe
(28 mar. 1793, condado de Albany, N.Y., EE.UU.–10 dic. 1864, Washington, D.C.).

Explorador y etnólogo estadounidense. Se desempeñó como topógrafo en una expedición a la región del lago Superior (1820); posteriormente se casó con una mestiza ojibwa y llegó a ser representante del gobierno entre los indígenas. En 1832 descubrió el nacimiento del río Mississippi en el lago Itasca, Minnesota. En virtud del tratado que firmó con los ojibwa en 1836, estos cedieron a EE.UU. gran parte de sus tierras en el norte de Michigan. Su libro de seis volúmenes Indian Tribes of the United States [Las tribus indias de Estados Unidos] (1851–57) constituye un trabajo pionero, aunque con imperfecciones.
